About
About the Bourhenne Long Life Institute
Five decades of research, teaching, and practical guidance for living longer and living better.
How It Began
Forty-nine years ago, Carl Bourhenne noticed his father beginning to show his age. That observation launched a lifelong commitment to understanding the aging process and discovering how it could be slowed naturally. In 1977, he founded the Carl I. Bourhenne Medical Research Foundation to study the biology of aging and identify practical ways to extend healthy human life.
In 1980, Carl returned to school and earned a master’s degree in gerontology from California State University, Dominguez Hills. His academic work later became the basis for his landmark book, How To Live The Longest Life Possible, now in its 15th edition.

A Living Example
At age 90, Carl says he feels eighteen until he looks in the mirror. He takes no prescription medications, walks and runs, lifts weights, teaches, and continues to share what he has learned. His blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar are normal. His life reflects the Institute’s central belief: the body and mind can remain far younger in function than many people assume.
Our Mission
Our mission is to advance the understanding and practice of human longevity through science, education, and disciplined living. We translate decades of proven research into practical, evidence-based habits that strengthen the body, sharpen the mind, and calm the spirit.
What Makes the Institute Different
Practical, Usable Guidance
We focus on guidance people can apply now, not abstract theory.
Longevity Explained Clearly
We explain longevity without jargon, complexity, or academic fog.
A Balanced Approach to Long Life
We emphasize the harmony of movement, nutrition, calm, and purpose.
Built on Decades of Experience
The work is grounded in nearly five decades of study and lived experience.
